As a Noun:
1. The covering on the top of a building. English = roof.
Augmented Meaning:
1. This sign is very flexible. The two hands are held with the palms facing downwards (as shown). The sign can begin with the fingertips touching then each hand moved away at an angle, or they can be brought together by moving upwards, or brought together as show in the video. Also, the imagined height and angle of the roof can be shown by changing the angle of the hands and moving them around the signing space.
2. This sign is what is known as a partly-lexical depicting sign ("depict" means "to make a picture'"or "to show"). This is why it is so 'flexible' in the way it is performed. You show the surfaces of the roof by placing your flat or spread hands where you imagine the roof to be relative to yourself. Your hands represent the roof itself, or you move them as if you were moving your hand over the surface of the imaginary roof. You cannot use just any handshape in Auslan. It needs to be a flat or spread handshape, and you need to hold it with the palms facing down.
